42 year-old Tim Raines (left) played hard this cool Wednesday night, and it helped him gain a big-league job with the Marlins for the 2002 season. "Rock" appeared in 98 games for Florida in 2002, but batted just .191. but we'll always remember how hey dove for a liner in the gap to make an out. Here's a guy who played at 100%, no matter what the situation, for all 23 seasons of his Major League career.
Even though he is now in his mid-fifties, there is no doubt in my mind Astros legend Jose Cruz (right) remains in game-shape. He was coaching first for Houston that night, and he commonly talked with the crowd and tossed balls to anxious fans. He was a lot of fun, especially for thsoe of us who grew up watching him play.
Astros second baseman Craig Biggio drives a ball early in the game (below).
Astros ace Roy Oswalt pitched that night, so we had the opportunity to see to staff #1's in the same day, having seen the Indians' C.C. Sabathia earlier in the day. I especially enjoyed these two shots.
